ARG poll: Obama, McCain take double-digit leads
1 hour, 49 minutes ago
A new American Research Group survey shows Barack Obama and John McCain leaping into double-digit leads.
Obama has 38 percent of the Democratic vote. Hillary Clinton trails with 26 percent. John Edwards has 20. ARG pollster Dick Bennett projects that 37 percent of the Democratic vote will come from independents, only 12 percent of whom are expected to vote for Clinton.
Among Republicans, John McCain leads Mitt Romney 39 percent to 25 percent with Mike Huckabee at 14. ARG gives McCain a 10 percent lead over Romney among Republicans. ARG expects independents, long a McCain stronghold, to comprise just 27 percent of the Republican voters.
The polling of 600 likely voters in each race, done Friday and today, has an admitted margin of error of 4 percent.
